I’ve just bought this refurbished phone, and going to set it up I get as far as trying to scan for wifi networks. I try troubleshooting, resetting network, resetting phone, clearing cache. Nothing is working. No problem connecting to my home wifi on other devices. Please help.

There are two possible causes as to why your phone can’t connect to a WiFi network. It is either due to a faulty third-party app or a hardware damage. If it is due to hardware damage, there is nothing you can due but bring your phone to a repair shop or request a replacement from the retail store to where you bought the phone.
However, if the underlying cause is a rouge or faulty app, this can be corrected by restarting your Galaxy S5 in Safe Mode. Doing so will only run pre-installed apps on the device. Here’s what you need to do:
> Turn off your phone.
> Press and hold the Power key.
> Release the key when the Samsung logo appears.
> Right after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume Down key.
> Continue to hold the Volume Down key until the device finishes restarting.
> Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
> Release the Volume Down key when you see Safe Mode.
If you are able to connect to the WiFi network while the phone is on Safe Mode, the next thing you need to do is to look for the suspected third-party app and have it uninstalled.
