I was recently given a Samsung j5 as a replacement for a broken phone, it had been put back to factory settings before I received it, but when trying to start it up it gets stuck at the name entry page (attachment) and won’t go further, it also flashes up 100 or so notifications saying that google play services have stopped. I have tried going through safe mode and also reformatting but nothing helps, do you have any solution to this issue?

If your phone doesn’t start up normally or is having stuck screen problem after doing a factory reset, it’s a possible firmware issue. Here are the things you can try to fix the problem:
1. Try to boot your Galaxy phone is Safe Mode (though you have mentioned that you’ve already done this, please give it another try). Doing so will disable all third-party apps that could have triggered the phone to act up. Here’s how:
> Turn off your device.
> Press and hold the key past the screen with the device name.
> Release the key when the Samsung logo appears.
> Right after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down button,
> Continue holding down the Volume Down button until the phone finishes restarting.
> When you see “Safe Mode” at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button.
If you are still stuck on the name entry page, try the next tweak.
2. Perform a Soft Reset. This process is known to correct minor issues including screen problem. It refreshes your phone’s operating system and eliminate random software glitches and junk files saved on your phone’s memory. This can be done by simply removing your phone’s battery. Do this while your phone is ON. Once the battery is out, press and hold the Power button for at least 1 minute. Then put the battery back in. Turn on the phone and check if it boots up normally.
3. If the soft reset didn’t fix the problem, boot your Galaxy J5 in Recovery Mode and wipe the cache partition. Here’s what you need to do:
> Turn off your Galaxy J5.
> Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys. Then press and hold the Power button.
> Release the Power button when the device logo screen appears.
> Then release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options) when the Android logo appears.
> Press the Volume Down key multiple times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.
> Press the Power button to select.
> Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power button to select.
> ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted once the the wipe cache partition is complete.
> Then press the Power key to restart your device.
Hope this works.
