My nearly new pixel 3 refuses to connect to my older JBL wireless speaker. no problems connecting to my car but it absolutely won’t connect to this speaker despite reboots and following instructions. It doesn’t find the speaker as an optional Bluetooth device

It is possible that your JBL speaker is not compatible with your Google Pixel 3 device. As you mentioned, there is no problem connecting your Pixel 3 to your car. But you may want to try troubleshooting both devices again. Try this out:
1. Make sure that Airplane Mode is disabled. If it is, toggle the switch on and off again.
2. Then restart both JBL and your Google Pixel 3.
3. Charge your JBL wireless speaker. A low-battery device may not be able to pair or establish a stable connection.
4. Delete your previous pairings.
5. Rename your Pixel’s Bluetooth name.
6. Clear the Bluetooth app cache and data. Head to Settings->Application Manager->swipe left or right to disable all tabs->Bluetooth->force stop to close Bluetooth->Clear cache and data->OK.
If none of these options fixes the problem, you can also try to reset network settings on your Pixel 3 device. And if still Pixel 3 won’t pair with your JBL wireless speaker nor find the device, then there’s a big possibility that any of the devices hardware is in conflict and therefore, are not compatible. For recommendations and further assistance, you can contact the device manufacturer. They can also verify if the Pixel 3 is compatible with JBL wireless speaker or not.
