my phone has a mind of its own

my  phone will work for a few minutes, then it shuts off without warning. when i try to use the side buttons to restart or reboot the phone, the screen starts to come on, then off again. the phone comes back on 30 to 45 minutes later, but only for a few minutes and the cycle goes on again. what should i do? 🙁
