I’ve used Google Maps and Sportractive for years with great success. In the last few weeks, tracking most hikes and drives is interrupted by the location turning itself off. This happens multiple times per day. While driving, I need to pull over and go into location settings to restart GPS tracking. While hiking, I need to check at every turn that it’s still tracking or I won’t get accurate distance data (or I might get lost in the woods and eaten by wild animals). I have fiddled with battery optimizing and when Verizon does its daily health check. I’ve tried different tracking apps. The only solution so far is to have the location setting screen linked for easy access or to set it up on a split screen with my map. Any ideas?

Technically, the Location service on your device will be turned off automatically once Verizon will run its regular health check and when the Power saving mode is enabled. Once you exit the Power Saving Mode, your Location Service won’t switch back on. Hence, you need to manually turn on the feature.
For the Verizon’s Auto Health Check, you have the option to turn this off by going to MyVerizon app. Here’s how:
> From the main menu, select Devices.
> Select your Galaxy Note 8 and click on Manage.
> Click Run Health Check.
> Click the result at the bottom. Doing so will also let you view and disable Auto Health Check.
