Recently, calls to my LG V35 ThinQ starting going directly to voice mail. I checked all the settings on the phone and couldn’t see any good reason this was happening.
I contacted Ting, my carrier, and was told this was happening because G3 and G4 towers were being shut down as G5 is being rolled out and that my phone needs to be able to accept VoLTE to use G5. Ting said the only solution is to buy a new phone.
My phone has a setting under Mobile Networks for LTE, and this is turned on. I can access the internet while on a phone call. Isn’t that the same as VoLTE? Do I really need to buy a new phone?

If you have to buy a new phone to accept 5G with your present carrier, I would instead switch carriers. Even though 5G is taking over there should be some carriers that allow 4G along with the latest 5G. This is forced obsolescence and a waste, not to mention capitalism at its worst.
