Back in December, my phone was low on battery and I was using a portable charger to try to keep it charged. There was a bad connection and the message for USB options kept coming up when it reconnected. I selected to Always use USB for Charging. At some point after that, the phone died from low battery. When I got it back on later, the phone was charging fine, but I realized I couldn’t connect it through USB to my car. It still charged, but it couldn’t share files, like music or the Android Auto app. I later realized it couldn’t connect to my laptop either, or anybody’s laptop.
After doing some research, I found the USB Debugging option in Developer mode and tried that. Didn’t work. I tried clicking on the button for “Select USB Configuration”. Clicking that does nothing, but at some point I clicked it a bunch of times and the familiar screen with the options showed up (Charging, Media Device, MIDI device, send files etc.), but it only flashed up for less than a second. I kept trying to get that to show up for longer so I could select the options. To no avail.
A couple of weeks later, I decided to replace the charging port entirely, thinking that a part in there may have been fried on that fateful night back in December. This had no effect on the problem, and then the phone wouldn’t charge properly. So I switched back to the original port, making sure the phone would charge again.
I now am led to think there might be another part on the motherboard that is designed specifically for USB connection. I don’t think I can fix it by doing anything in the software of the phone, as suggested by this article https://thedroidguy.com/what-to-do-if-your-lg-g7-thinq-smartphone-is-not-recognized-by-your-pc-easy-steps-1086701. I have tried all of those things.
If anybody has a detailed diagram of the phone motherboard with ideas of where to look/ what to look for, or other suggestions of how to solve this problem, that would be great. This was purchased as Renewed from Amazon with the 90-day return period, and it happened about 2 months after that ended. Trying to get the full usage of this phone. Right now the only way to transfer files is by moving microSD cards or via Cloud.
Thanks in advance!
